Sweet Dreams are mAde of Ooze by Whiskdom

Dreams don’t have to stay dreams, something perfectly encapsulated by the rise of Whiskdom from a home-based business to the conception of their third concept, Ooze, smack dab in the heart of town at Orchard Central.

It seemed just like yesterday when Circuit Breaker rolled around and they had just exploded to the forefront of local home-based businesses on Instagram. We’ve now moved past the clunky era of fighting for their hot-in-demand sweet bakes, and are seeing a thriving brick-and-mortar brand.

Sure, running a brand in real life is a different monster from one largely situated in the cloud in bits and bytes, but they’ve given a good account of themselves with their first foray into brick and mortar. Ooze by Whiskdom is just a larger extension of ideas they had tucked away at the back of the mind.

Unlike the pure bakes focus of the first two, with a small helping of beverages, Ooze by Whiskdom is more ambitious and holistic — it comes with the whole shebang of bakes, beverages, and fresh ice cream, much like many of the trendiest cafes around nowadays.

While the focus is different here, the Orchard Central cafe is still very much in-line with its brand aesthetics. Bright vivid shades of pink, electrifying blues, and an array of cutesy graphics that they’d been associated with.

Whispers of Sweet Nothings

I am admittedly not a person with a sweet tooth. Regardless, even for me, there’s a time, place, and mentality that makes it perfect for indulging in my share of treacly goodness. And I think Ooze by Whiskdom got that vibe down.

For many, there’s something lacking in a cafe that serves nothing but bakes. So it goes without saying that the fleshed-out inventory and their focus on the decadent Cookiewich, loaded up with ice cream and toppings, make it a much more attractive spot for a sit-down dessert date.

To start off your Ooze by Whiskdom visit, pick out a cookie base for your Cookiewich ($12.90), to later be smothered in a glorious glut of ice cream and toppings.

Cookies here are simple, crowd-pleasing sweet treats so expect a certain level of sugar. Once you’ve come to terms with that, they are just what a dessert-craving tummy is calling out for with flavours such as Creme Brulee, Hojicha, and Smores to sweeten the deal.

True to the Levain-style cookies, Ooze by Whiskdom makes theirs thick, chunky, and generously loaded with ingredients. The Creme Brulee came packing a nice glut of sweet custard while the Hojicha had whiffs of fragrant roasted notes but otherwise tasted more like chocolate.

While there was a wide assortment of ice cream flavours behind the display, the ones that I recommend are the Black Sesame which had a pronounced fragrance and the Coconut Sorbet for a light, refreshing touch to cut through the heavy sweets.

Overall, everything skewed saccharine and is surprisingly filling — but that’s not a bad thing. If you’d decided to sit down at Ooze by Whiskdom for desserts, you’d probably already braced yourself for a potent dosage of sweetness anyways and they deliver on that aspect.

Would I say “sweet dreams are made of this”? Depends on who’s asking. If you have a low threshold for cloyingness, maybe steer clear. For those with the most formidably insatiable sweet tooth though, this no-holds-barred dessert bonanza will hit the spot, hard.
