[Update: Boyutei has closed.] There’s no mistaking that the Hvala brand name holds a lot of sway over the Singapore cafe scene — as one of the go-to’s for Japanese treats, all their branches are often packed to the brim. Still, setting up their new concept Boyutei with a Michelin-starred restaurant? Unexpected.
[Updated: 51 Tras has closed.] Nestled along a bustling lane, Just a stone’s throw away from Tanjong Pagar MRT, you’ll find a verdant panelled door at 51 Tras Street that leads inward into a spacious, industrial space. A space where, as you pass through the door arch, you can feel the distinct rumblings of electronic music vibrating through your body.
If there’s any apt descriptor for the sleepy neighbourhood of Punggol, hidden in the far North-Eastern corner of Singapore, it’s “young BTO estate filled with young couples”. Given that reputation, I have growing bewilderment towards the void of trendy brunch spots in the area. Well, the new pet-friendly Well Collective fits just the profile.

Merci Marcel is undoubtedly one of the most beloved cafes in Singapore (and a personal fav), bringing great vibes and great food with a quirky French flair. They are advancing their brand with a new crepe concept, French Fold.
Stateland Coffeehouse has been reborn as Brotherbird Coffeehouse. The previously popular cafe known for unique items like their mochi donut soft-serve shuttered late last year. They have rebranded for their offshoot to take the main stage.
